I don’t copy clothing from references the way most illustrators do.

I have a background in fashion design.
So I create clothing — I don’t replicate it.
I draw it from my head.

But there was no “reference” inside my head to copy from.

So I had to figure things out differently:
✦ how and where folds actually form
✦ how light and shadow behave on fabric
✦ what silhouettes clothing is built from

In a way, I don’t just draw clothes —
I construct them, like a designer, using a clear set of principles.

Now, even when I use a reference, I only look at the design —
and then I dress the model myself.
